Didde Center Staff
|Director of Formation:||Director of Development:|
Patrick Callahan, Ph.D.
Patrick grew up Southern New Jersey and attended the University of Dallas where he studied Classics. He did his master's and doctoral work, also in Classical languages, at Fordham University, where he wrote a dissertation on the ancient commentaries, or scholia, to the Greek lyric poet Pindar.
He has written and given papers on a broad range of topics from Greek tragedy and Medieval hagiography to the novels of Ian Fleming and the poetry of C.S. Lewis. He and his wife started The Well-Read Catholic as an initiative to renew broader reading interests in the Catholic community. He lives in rural Kansas with his wife and their 5 children.
After 24 years with American Family Insurance, Shawn joined the Didde Center family to advance our mission in 2017. Shawn is a graduate of Emporia High, and he and his wife, Melissa, are alumni of Emporia State University.
“I didn’t fully understand the importance of the Didde Campus Center in our lives until discerning the offer of the Development Director position,” says Shawn.
Shawn received a Master of Theological Studies degree, which he has used to benefit the the Church, teaching youth and adult formation classes.
Today, he understands the difference that can be made in the life of students and benefactors by participating in the ministry of the Didde Center. Shawn looks forward to promoting the fruitfulness of the mission to ESU, and working to create a culture of support for the students, permanent community, faculty, and staff of Emporia State University.
